The veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik didn’t miss a chance to roast the ex-Australian skippers, Ricky Ponting and Mark Taylor, during commentary in the ongoing fifth Ashes 2023 Test between England and Australia.
On the fourth day of the ongoing Oval Test, Ponting and Taylor praised the Australia openers, David Warner and Usman Khawaja, for a brilliant start. Dinesh Kartik took this opportunity to remind them of the Ashes 2009. Notably, Australia lost the Ashes 2009, which was played 14 years back, owing to some stellar performances from the Englishmen.
“The two Australian commentators here going gaga over how well Australia are going. Here is a moment though, that happened a few Ashes ago. Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey had put on a partnership of 127 before this happened. What happened after that, I think it is best Ricky explains. They lost the Test and the Ashes post that,” said Karthik during his commentary stint for Sky Sports followed by a burst of laughter in the commentary box.
Just making sure he has a contract next year- Ricky Ponting about Dinesh Karthik
Ricky Ponting, alongside his former Aussie teammate Mark Taylor didn’t wait too long to come back with an interesting reply.
“Gee have a bit of that, there you go. Dinesh Karthik's become an honorary Englishman overnight, hasn't he?” said Taylor.
“Just making sure he has a contract next year, isn't he? Locking himself in the Sky box. Good work DK,” Ponting added.
The video of this hilarious interaction between Karthik and the former Aussie greats is making rounds on social media as soon as it was shared by a user on Twitter.
