Virat Kohli has once again taken a rest ahead of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe to be played next month. Currently, he is on a break from the game with the Indian team playing a limited-overs series against the West Indies. A while back, Kohli was reported of making a comeback against the Southern African team. The report had said that the selectors are keen to get him back into form.

However, on July 30, his name wasn't on the list of 15 players for the tour. As expected, a second-string side has been put together for the three-match series. Shikhar Dhawan, who led the team in the ODI series in the ongoing Caribbean tour, will lead the team once again. In the last few months, the 2008 U19 World Cup-winning skipper hasn't been in the best of form.

From the Indian T20 League 2022 to the recently concluded England tour, he has been able to hit only three fifties. Talking about the England tour, he failed in both innings of the rescheduled fifth Test. Also, in the T20I and ODI series, he managed only 12 and 34 runs, respectively. The fans were expecting him to play in the series since it was rumoured that he would play against Zimbabwe.

After all, the side doesn't have the best of bowling attacks and might have been an easier way to get back to form. However, once again, he is on a break. A source in the Indian Cricket Board has said that the right-hander has spoken to selectors that he will be available for the Asia Cup

"Virat had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards. The first team players will hardly get rest from Asia Cup till end of World T20. Hence this is a two-week window after Windies tour when they can rest," a source was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
