The County Cricket Championship's 2022 season has begun, and the biggest news is that Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammad Rizwan are playing for the same team. The two are a part of Sussex County Club and are playing their debut game against Derbyshire.
India and Pakistan have a big political history, which has dented the sporting relations between the two cricket-loving nations. Whenever the two teams meet in an encounter, the excitement is always high. And now the players from these countries playing together have brought a lot of happiness to the fans.
Sussex Head Coach Ian Salisbury expressed his happiness to see the talented duo playing for the county side. The coach said that the players are massive additions to the team.
"I am extremely excited to be able to bring in players of Rizwan and Pujara's quality into the side. Not only are they absolute world-class cricketers that will boost our performances on the pitch, but to have them around the boys and in the dressing room can only be a positive," he said in a team statement.
Notably, Pujara will be available to the team for most of the County Championship and Royal London One-Day tournament. However, Rizwan will be available for County Championship and T20 Blast until mid-July, after which he will leave the team due to national commitments.
Meanwhile, Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bat first. Another Pakistan player, Shan Masood, on the other hand, is playing for Derbyshire. Meanwhile, fans were elated to see Pujara and Rizwan playing for the same team.
