Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell firmly believes that it is just a matter of time, and soon David Warner will be back amongst the runs. Maxwell’s comments came after the southpaw was dismissed for a duck against New Zealand in the warm-up game on October 18. Warner has been woefully out of form and confidence as he managed to score just 195 runs for SRH in eight games that he played during this year’s IPL.

Warner’s strike rate too was far too low, and he was dropped from most of the games in the UAE leg of the league. Australia are due to begin their campaign on Saturday (October 23) against South Africa. Maxwell feels it is just a lean phase and warned the rest of the oppositions to write off Warner at their own peril.

"If you ever doubt Davey, it's an absolute no-no," Maxwell said. "You know he's going to turn it around. He's a superstar of all three formats. He's made so many runs. He's going to go down as one of the greats of the game. Unfortunately, he got Martin Guptill'd yesterday with an absolute hanger. Gup seems to do that a lot against us.

"Those sorts of things happen when you're searching for it. But you know when he gets out there come game time, come the 23rd , regardless of what happens in the next practice game, you know he's going to hit the ground running. He's going to be a big player for us,” he added.

Australia beat New Zealand in the warmup match at Abu Dhabi. The team will next face India on Wednesday (October 20). Maxwell was rested for the match against New Zealand. It remains to be seen if he plays the second warmup game.
