Former South African captain Faf du Plessis claims that domestic T20 leagues can be a real threat to international cricket. It has almost been 16 years since the first T20 International game was played. The shortest format of the game has grown leaps and bounds. In several instances, cricketers have preferred to play T20 leagues ahead of international cricket due to numerous reasons.
Du Plessis is set to represent the Quetta Gladiators in the 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The tournament is going to resume on June 9.
Maybe in 10 years, cricket will almost be like soccer: Faf du Plessis
According to Faf Du Plessis, cricket, in the future, could take the shape of soccer. He stated this because, in soccer, domestic matches gain more limelight than international games. Earlier this year, Faf Du Plessis was seen in action for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). Before the suspension of the league due to the Covid-19 crisis in India, the CSK opening batsman amassed 320 runs in seven matches. The 36-year-old has also taken part in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Mzansi Super League (MSL), and England’s T20 tournaments. As far as the Pakistan Super League is concerned, Faf plays for the Gladiators. Earlier, he has also played for the Peshawar Zalmi, which is now captained by fast bowler Wahab Riaz.
The second phase of the sixth season of the Pakistan Super League is going to start on June 9 in Abu Dhabi. The PCB has got all exemptions and permissions to stage the remaining games of the tournament in Abu Dhabi. All the players and the majority of officials have already reached Abu Dhabi. Earlier, the cricket board had announced that the tournament would resume in Pakistan. However, the matches were shifted due to the rise in the COVID-19 cases in the country. The Pakistan Cricket Board got all the clearances in time, and the tournament finally resumes this week. Karachi Kings are currently placed at the top of the points table, whereas Peshawar Zalmi is at the 2nd spot. They are then followed by Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, and Quetta Gladiators, respectively.
