India defeated West Indies by a margin of two wickets to win the second ODI of their series. The second ODI at  Queen's Park Oval once again witnessed a batting frenzy as Axar Patel guided the Indian team through in the last over. With this win, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team claimed the series with one match yet to be played.

Batting first, the home team had a great start with Shahi Hope, playing his 100th ODI, and Kyle Mayers striking the ball hard. They continued to attack and added 65 runs in the first nine overs. The early introduction of spin got them the breakthrough. Deepak Hooda dismissed Mayers (39) on the first ball of the 10th over.

The Windies slowed down a bit, and lost two more wickets to spin, bringing Nicholas Pooran in the middle with Hope in the 22nd over. The two then resurrected the team and played smart cricket. While Pooran was occasionally hitting the ball over the line, Hope managed to hang on to one end. Together they scored 137 runs, bringing the team total to 247 runs.

While Hope (115) went on to make a century, Pooran managed to score 74 runs in 77 balls. With Shardul Thakur taking three wickets in the death overs, West Indies managed 311 runs on the board. India began the chase cautiously as Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill needed some time to become comfortable.

However, they did not do much as Dhawan, Gill, and Shreyas Iyer all lost their wickets in quick succession. The Indian team looked troubled at 79/3 in 17.2 overs. Sanju Samson (54) and Shreyas Iyer (63), who both scored a half-century, regained control of the game. They formed a crucial partnership of 126 runs to get India to 205 in 33 overs.

After their wickets, Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel continued to get runs under the belt. The latter, in particular, went all out to get his team across the finish line. After Hooda's (33) wicket, he was left alone with the tail to complete the job. He kept the boundaries flowing and completed his half-century.

To assist his team win by two wickets, the all-rounder completed the task by hitting a six on the fourth delivery of the last over. He remained unbeaten on 64 runs in 35 balls, with three fours and five sixes. He also played with a strike rate of 182 in the match.
