VVS Laxman believes that Suryakumar, Kishan, and Tewatia are unlikely to get a chance in the T20I series against England. The first match will commence on March 12th, and it is going to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Suryakumar, Kishan, and Tewatia are a part of India’s 19-member T20 team. The three players have earned a maiden India call-up after impressing everyone in the domestic circuit and the IPL. The three cricketers were the top performers in the Indian Premier League 2020. These cricketers impressed the fans and the entire cricket fraternity with their power-hitting in the middle-order.
VVS Laxman opines that the Indian team management will continue to bat Shreyas Iyer at number 4. He stated this because the selection committee has dropped Manish Pandey and Sanju Samson from the squad which went to Australia. Also, the in-form Rishabh Pant returns to the T20I side after being benched for five T20Is in New Zealand. The youngster was also dropped from all the white-ball matches in Australia. Laxman believes that Pant will play the finisher’s role at number five, along with Hardik Pandya, who will come to bat at number 6. It will nearly be impossible for Suryakumar and Kishan to make a way in the team, at least early in the series.
Whenever they get an opportunity, I am sure all the three will perform well: VVS Laxman
Not only that, but the management will also have to choose between Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan to partner Rohit Sharma. Laxman believes Shikhar Dhawan is likely to get the nod considering his thunderous form in white-ball cricket over the past couple of years. Rahul Tewatia will also find it extremely difficult to get a spot in the playing XI. Brimming with confidence after a brilliant start to his Test career, Sundar is likely to get the nod.
Yuzvendra Chahal will be the first-choice spinner in the playing XI. Varun Chakravarthy, who is subject to passing the fitness test, is also in line for his debut. This means that Rahul Tewatia could warm the bench for the entire T20 series. VVS Laxman concluded the discussion by stating that the trio might not make its T20I debut in the forthcoming series. However, he believes that they will perform very well whenever given an opportunity.
