Zimbabwe and India are playing against each other in the last game of the three-match ODI series in Harare on Monday. The visitors’ stand-in skipper KL Rahul, once again, won the toss but decided to bat first for the first time in the series. Before the toss, he said that the team was looking to challenge themselves in seam-friendly conditions. The right-hander also added that he wanted to spend some time at the crease.

“We want to challenge ourselves,” said India captain Rahul. “There is some movement early on. I haven’t spent time batting in the middle and it will be good to get some confidence before the Asia Cup.”

However, the Karnataka player started extremely slowly as he scored only 12 runs in 25 balls. At this stage, the Men in Blue had scored 41/0 after 10 overs. Notably, he didn’t score a boundary during this period. He scored the first boundary of his innings when Brad Evans came on to bowl his first over the game. On the second ball of the over, the Bangalore-born player earned his first boundary towards the point region.

It looked like Rahul will get some confidence from the boundary and will increase his scoring rate. However, to the surprise of the Indian fans, he played quite a few dot-balls for the next few overs. In the 15th over, the 30-year-old broke the shackles again with six against Evans. The fans thought that now he would increase his scoring rate for the sake of the team. However, little did they know that his inning would end two balls later.

On the last ball of the over, Brad had the last laugh as the opening batter chopped the ball onto the stumps. India scored 289 runs in their 50 overs at the end of the first innings. At the time of writing, Zimbabwe has lost 1 wicket for 67 runs in 14.2 overs. The hosts currently need 223 runs to win the game, while India is in need of 9 wickets.
