Ben Stokes has been making headlines for his online banter with Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle. The latter took to Twitter to speak on the ongoing debate of the recent run-out involving Deepti Sharma and Charlotte Dean.
Sharma's brilliant run-out of Dean in the third and final ODI of the England series sparked heated debate among cricket fans. Deepti has received harsh criticism from many senior England cricket team members as well as the media.
Bhogle has slammed the English press for the way they treated Deepti Sharma. In a lengthy rant over a series of tweets, Bhogle described the coverage as "very disturbing". He also stated that the English culture and colonial dominance have led them to believe that what they do is always correct.
However, the English Test Captain did not take his comments well. He hit him back with a series of fuming tweets. "Harsha … bringing culture into peoples opinion over a Mankad?" he wrote. "Harsha .. 2019 WC final was over 2 years ago, I still till this day revive countless messages calling me all sorts from Indian fans, does this disturb you?"
"Is this a culture thing?? ….absolutely not,I receive messages regarding the overthrows from people all over world,as people all over the world have made comment’s on the Mankad dismissal, not just people who are English," he continued.
"What about the rest of the worlds reaction to this particular incident? England isn’t the only cricket playing nation who have spoken about the ruling," Stokes concluded.
While the 31-year-old may have had a valid point, fans trolled him for bickering with the veteran Indian broadcaster. Many pointed out that he was still calling it "Mankad" and not "Run-out", which is now the official term for the dismissal. "You are still calling it a "mankad" and not a "run not" which is apparently written in the LAWS of the game, serves harsha's point, ben," wrote a fan.
