Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has embarked on a new journey before the ODI World Cup in 2023. After having a great time on the field with the Indian team and off-field with various broadcasters, Jadeja has now taken on coaching duties. According to the latest news reports, he has been appointed as a mentor by the Afghanistan Cricket Board for the upcoming World Cup.
Ahead of the prestigious tournament, Jadeja was seen spending time with the Afghanistan team in their practice sessions. Jadeja, who made his debut for India in 1992, had played 15 Tests for the nation. In his Test career, he has scored 576 runs at an average of 26.18 with 4 half-centuries to his name. His best score is 96 runs.
However, Jadeja had a great time in white-ball cricket. He has played 196 ODIs for India. In which he has scored 5359 runs at an average of 37.47, including 6 hundreds and 30 half-centuries. His inclusion in Afghanistan team management will bring extensive experience to the squad. The Afghani team will look to leave a mark on the world's biggest stage during the tournament.
Afghanistan needs to break the World Cup jinx
Playing along with the world's top countries, Afghanistan will look to improve their performance in the upcoming tournament. They have played 18 games in two World Cups till now and have managed to win just a single game. In their first appearance in 2015, they beat Scotland but lost all other games. While at the 2019 World Cup, Afghanistan failed to register a single victory.
This year's World Cup is special for the Afghan team, as they come here with direct qualification. They snatched the place by beating teams like Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Their performance might shock some teams at the upcoming event. It's worth noting that the team will start their campaign against Bangladesh on October 7 at the HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala.

Well Afganistan's batting is a bit weak, if they can score some runs, then I am sure their bowlers will do the rest of the job
