Bangalore beat Lucknow by 18 runs at the DY Patil Stadium. Winning the toss, Lucknow went with the obvious choice to bowl first. In the first innings, Bangalore had the worst possible start as they lost two players in the first over itself. Dushmantha Chameera took the wickets of Anuj Rawat (4) and Virat Kohli (0) on the fifth and the sixth ball of the over. Glenn Maxwell (23) followed with a few quick runs but he too was dismissed in the sixth over by Krunal Pandya. Bangalore's scoreboard read 47/3 after the powerplay.

Trouble continued for the men in red as Suyash Prabhudesai (10) also departed in the eighth over bowled by Jason Holder. Shahbaz Ahmed then joined Faf du Plessis and the duo tried to stabilize the innings. The duo kept the scoreboard ticking and held the innings tight. They added 70 runs together before Ahmed (26) was run out in the 16th over. Bangalore was 132 in 15.2 overs at this time. Du Plessis, in the meantime, reached his half-century.

He played a skippers' knock for the team in a difficult situation. He missed his century by just four runs as he was dismissed by Jason Holder in the final over. He played 64 balls and hit 11 fours and two sixes in the innings of 96. Bangalore managed 181 runs in the first innings.

In the pursuit, Lucknow did not have a good start either. They lost two wickets in the powerplay and scored 44 runs. Quinton de Kock (3) was caught at first slip off Josh Hazlewood. Manish Pandey (6) also followed soon, as he was dismissed by Hazlewood in the fifth over. KL Rahul (30) also lost his wicket in the eighth over to Harshal Patel.

Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda then tried to build a partnership as they added 36 runs for the fourth wicket. However, Hooda (13) was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the 13th over. Pandya played a knock of 42 runs in 28 balls before Maxwell got his wicket in the 14th over. The men in turquoise were 108/5 in 13.4 overs. Wickets kept tumbling for them as they lost Ayush Badoni (13) in the 17th over to Hazlewood.

Marcus Stoinis and Holder were the last two recognized batters at the crease, with Lucknow still needing 47 runs to win. However, the wicket of Stoinis in the penultimate over ended Lucknow's hopes.
