'Ek aur saal, ek aur Final' - Fans react after Jaffna Kings defeat Kandy Falcons in Qualifier 1 to reach LPL 2022 Final

Here is how fans have reacted to the victory of Jaffna Kings as they qualify for their third consecutive final in LPL

On 21 December 2022, Jaffna Kings locked horns with Kandy Falcons in the ongoing Lanka Premier League. It was the first qualifier of the tournament that took place in Colombo. However, after the group stage, Kandy Falcons finished at the top of the table with 14 points from eight matches.

On the other hand, Jaffna Kings finished in the second spot with 12 points from six matches. Meanwhile, it was another opportunity for Jaffna Kings to get qualified for the final after winning both the previous editions. Speaking of the match, Kandy Falcons won the toss and opted to bat first.

For Kandy Falcons, Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher came out to open. Nissanka scored 35 runs off 31 balls, including five fours. Fletcher managed only two runs off six balls. Then, the following batters came up with some small contributions as they posted 143 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Najibullah Zadran scored 22 runs off 17 balls, including one six. Kamindu Mendis scored 26 runs off 21 balls, including three fours. For Jaffna Kings, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth took three wickets for 30 runs in four overs. Maheesh Theeksana also took two wickets for 24 runs in four overs. 

In reply, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Avishka Fernando came out to open the innings for the two-time defending champions. They had a blistering start as they scored 50 runs in just 3.2 overs. Then, the rain came and the play stopped in 5.1 overs. Jaffna managed 63 runs for three wickets until then. After a short break, the game resumed and again it stopped in 11 overs. Jaffna managed to score 98 runs for three wickets by then. As per the DLS score, Jaffna were ahead of 24 runs at that stage. Sadeera Samarawickrama was batting on 15* runs off 15 balls while Dunith Wellalage was batting on 19 runs off 23 balls. However, no play happened after that, and Jaffna Kings won the match by 24 runs, courtesy of the DLS method.
