India vs Australia, 2nd ODI, Indore

India and Australia locked horns in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24. The stand-in Australian skipper Steve Smith won the flip of the coin and decided to bowl first. Batting first, India got a shaky start as they lost the first wicket on the score of 16 runs in the fourth over.

But it was also the time when the opener Shubman Gill and number 3 batter Shreyas Iyer took charge and built an outstanding partnership of 200 runs for the second wicket. Both batters scored the amazing centuries. Gill scored 104 runs off 97 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes, alongside Shreyas Iyer’s 105 runs off 90 balls, hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes with the willow.

These brilliant century knocks were followed by the half-centuries scored by skipper KL Rahul and star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul scored 52 runs, with 3 fours and 3 sixes with the bat followed by the 72-run knock played by Suryakumar Yadav off just 37 balls, with a blistering strike rate of 194.59.

On the back of these four amazing knocks, India posted a big total of 399 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Cameron Green scalped two wickets, alongside one wicket each picked by Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, and Adam Zampa for Australia.

The spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja dominates Australia in the second innings

While chasing the target, the Australian innings were affected by rain and the game was reduced to 33 overs with a revised target of 317 runs. The Australian batting lineup completely crumbled against the Indian bowling lineup and got bundled out just at the score of 217 runs in 28.2 overs.

Star off-spin all-rounders, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja claimed 3 wickets each, alongside 1 and 2 wickets scalped by Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna, respectively. Eventually, India won the match by a big margin of 99 runs and took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series against Australia.

Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining knock of 105 runs in India’s favour. Now, both teams will lock horns in the third and last ODI of the series at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27.
