Lucknow beat Mumbai by 36 runs to get their fifth win of the Indian T20 League 2022.  Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl first. Lucknow got off to a slow start but KL Rahul looked in fine form. Quinton de Kock (10) was dismissed in an attempt to up the ante. The men in turquoise managed just 32 runs in the powerplay.

Post that, it was the complete KL Rahul show. KL was steady in the first half but turned on the beast mode in the second half of the innings. He got some support in Manish Pandey (22).  Kieron Pollard got the wicket of Manish Pandey (22) for a team score of 85. The in-form Marcus Stoinis (0) also followed soon as Daniel Sams got his wicket in the 13th over. Lucknow lost the third consecutive wicket in the 14th over. Kieron Pollard got the wicket of Krunal Pandya (one), leaving Lucknow at 103/4 in 13.1 overs.

Riley Meredith got his first wicket of the match as he dismissed Deepak Hooda (10) in the 16th over. Meanwhile, Rahul continued playing a great knock and raced to his hundred with a six in the final over of the inning. Ayush Badoni (14) lost his wicket to Meredith on the fourth ball of the last over. Jason Holder could not score any runs in the next two balls as Lucknow managed 168 runs in the first innings. KL Rahul remained not out on 103 runs in 62 balls, with 12 fours and four sixes.

In the chase, Mumbai had the start that they were looking for. Rohit Sharma hit a few decent shots to keep the scoreboard ticking. The men in blue and gold reached 43 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay. However, things went downhill for them after the powerplay. Ishan Kishan (eight) lost his wicket to Ravi Bishnoi in the most unfortunate way in the eighth over. A wide ball took the inside edge of his bat to hit the wicket-keeper's boot and landed in Holder's hands at first slip. Kishan played a knock of 8 in 20 balls.

Mumbai lost three more wickets in quick succession. Dewald Brevis (three) lost his wicket to Mohsin Khan in the ninth over while Pandya took the wicket of Sharma (39) in the 10th over.   Suryakumar Yadav (seven) fell to Ayush Badoni in the 12th over. Pollard and Tilak Varma were in the middle and had a massive task of taking the team through. The duo kept hitting a few boundaries here and there and kept Mumbai just about in the game. Varma (38), who was the most impactful batter in the innings, fell to Holder in the 18th over at 124, with Mumbai still needing 44 runs in the final two overs.

Dushmantha Chameera bowled the penultimate over and conceded just five runs to Pollard and Daniel Sams. Pandya bowled the final over and picked up Pollard (19) on the first ball. Jaydev Unadkat was then run out on the third ball. Pandya then got the wicket of Daniel Sams on the next ball and bowled two dots to conclude the match.
