On 7 December 2022, India took on Bangladesh in the second match of the ongoing three-match ODI series in Mirpur. After losing the first match, Bangladesh were looking for sealing the series by winning this clash. While it was a must-win game for Rohit Sharma and his men.

However, before this series, all senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took a rest from the whole New Zealand tour. So, all eyes were on them as this series is a crucial one in the context of the upcoming 2023 World Cup. However, it was not a good start to this series as Indian batters failed to rise to the occasion in the first match.

Rohit Sharma scored 51* runs off 28 balls against Bangladesh in the second ODI

In the first match, only KL Rahul scored 73 runs off 70 balls. Apart from him, no batters scored significantly. Rohit Sharma scored only 27 runs off 31 balls. So, the star batter was looking to do well in this clash. Speaking about the second match, Litton Das won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, Bangladesh scored 271 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 100* runs off 83 balls. But, during that innings, Rohit Sharma got injured while he tried to grab a catch at slips in the second over.   

He left the field instantly and also went to Hospital for X-Ray. So, it was evident that he was not able to come out to bat for India while chasing. In his absence, KL Rahul became the stand-in captain. Even, Kohli and Dhawan came out to open the innings. But, India were in trouble when they lost the eighth wicket for 213 runs in 45.1 overs. Then, the Indian skipper surprised everyone as he came out to bat with an injured thumb. Then, he played a blinder of a knock as he smashed 51* runs off 28 balls, including three fours and five sixes. But, still, his fight went in vain as India lost the match by five wickets. But, fans came up and hailed the batter for his courageous effort in this match.
