Manchester United, once among the top football clubs, has been thrown into disarray ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. Since that season, the English club has failed to win either the Premier League or the Champions League.

The fans have been left tired after seeing their favourite club go down the pecking order in the last decade. A large section of Manchester United fans blames their American owners. The English club is owned by the Glazers family that consists of six members namely Avram, Joel, Kevin, Darcie, Bryan and Edward Glazer.

Manchester United opened the doors to the new season with a loss against Brighton in the Premier League, which has left fans questioning the future of the club. Loss, but more the manner of their play has pushed fans to continue their boycott of the owners. A large chunk of match-going Manchester United fans have threatened to boycott their upcoming match against Liverpool next weekend. Interestingly this game was postponed last year as United supporters stormed the pitch amidst their boycott of the Glazers. Things got ugly real fast as United supporters clashed with the police resulting in many injuries and arrests.

The hashtag #emptyoldtraffod has been gathering pace on social media as United supporters call out for a strong message to their owners in the upcoming match. It is expected that many seats will be left vacant at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s home ground, against Liverpool. The big game between two of the biggest English clubs is scheduled to be held on August 23rd.

The campaign which started a couple of years ago has gained pace in the last season as things did not improve. Last season United finished sixth in the Premier League table losing out on the prestigious Champions League place.

Erik Ten Hag has been appointed as the new manager of Manchester United and hopes were high for the first match. But a poor performance has thrown their fans into the same despair.
