India gave millions of its fans and followers a reason to smile and rejoice as they beat England by 151 runs in the second Test at Lords. It was a performance of ages where character, grit, and determination were displayed. The heroes of this unlikely victory were the Indian bowlers, who equally also contributed with the bat.
If Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah stitched an invaluable stand of 89 runs for the ninth wicket, then Siraj made sure to dent the England batting order by picking up four wickets. During the first innings too, the right-arm pacer picked up four wickets and finished the match with eight wickets. Throughout the test match, Siraj maintained speeds of 140 and didn’t allow the opposition batters to settle.
Fittingly, he also picked up the last wicket and gave skipper Virat Kohli a reason to let out a huge roar after the win. Siraj also took to social media to share pictures of his match-winning performance. "MAGIC is believing in yourself. If you can make that happen, you can make anything happen What a win, total team effort," wrote Siraj
As soon as it went viral, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh commented on the post and labelled him a ‘Phenom.’
Although KL Rahul walked away with the player of the match award, Siraj’s performance nonetheless was mighty impressive. He not only picked up wickets at regular intervals but also played a perfect supporting foil to Bumrah and Ishant Sharma. In his short Test career so far, Siraj has taken 27 wickets in just seven Test matches and has impressed one and all.
