England all-rounder Ben Stokes has added wisdom to the batting line-up of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020. However, due to inconsistent performances from Jos Buttler, Steve Smith, and Sanju Samson, RR failed to deliver well as a team in IPL and are almost knocked out of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals had experimented with the young Yashasvi Jaiswal as an opener. However, after a couple of poor performances from his side, they placed Stokes in that position. Stokes has returned more grounded after struggling to play in his initial game and performed some splendid innings for RR, including a century. He likewise said that he is enjoying the role of an opener given to him.
Ben Stokes: "I’m really enjoying the new role. It’s something that I’ve sort of always wanted to slowly and gradually get into.”
“Yeah, I’m really enjoying this new role. I’d had conversations with Macca really long ago now, the IPL usually happens earlier in the year, so we had discussions even before that. I’m really enjoying the new role. It’s something that I’ve sort of always wanted to slowly and gradually get into,” Ben Stokes told ANI.
Ben Stokes revealed that in the England team, it's extremely intense with the number of quality of batsmen they have. Cricketers such as Jason Roy, Tom Banton, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales are all opening batsmen for England cricket. Hence, it's an exceptionally hard spot to get into, according to Stokes. So yes, Stokes is really enjoying the chance and duty he has been given at the Royals.
Stokes went on compassionate leave before the start of IPL 2020 to meet his family back in New Zealand. He missed the initial matches of the tournament for this reason. Everyone has noticed that Rajasthan Royals have been heavily banking on their foreign players to perform in the tournament. These foreign players include the likes of Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, and Jofra Archer.
Earlier in England, Stokes had himself unavailable for any game during the Test series against Pakistan, as he went on leave. England has replaced the all-rounder with fast bowler Ollie Robinson, due to his unavailability for the remainder of the series for some family reasons. He, however, went to the UAE and currently is playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2020.
