Indian skipper Virat Kohli believes England are the favorites to win the 2021 T20I World Cup. India will host the mega event in October and November and will be looking to cease their long wait for an ICC trophy. The Indian cricket team has not won an ICC trophy since 2013. They have consistently performed well in the competition but have failed to win the knockout matches in the last few years. The Men in Blue are also waiting for a T20 World Cup title for more than a decade. Their first and last win in the competition was in the inaugural edition in 2007.

In the last two editions of the competition, India lost at the final and semi-final stage. In the 2014 T20 World Cup, India lost to Sri Lanka in the final match. Two years later, West Indies humbled their dreams at the semi-final stage when the competition was held in India. Virat Kohli will be leading the Indian squad in the T20 World Cup for the first time and will be eyeing a historic win.

All teams must be aware of England’s strength: Virat Kohli

No cricket team has succeeded to win a T20 World Cup at home so far. Team India will have an excellent opportunity to establish that record this year. Virat Kohli believes that India are not the favorites to win the tournament. Speaking on the eve of the first T20I game against England, the Indian skipper stated that England is the favorite to win.

Highlighting England’s number one rank in the shortest format of the game, Kohli said they would be the team to beat in the competition. He further stated that all the other teams must be aware of England’s strength in the tournament.

For the upcoming T20 series against England, Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back with the Indian team after a lengthy layoff due to injury. Before his injury issues, Bhuvneshwar was a crucial bowler for the Indian team across formats, and Kohli is happy to have the 31-year-old back with the team. Team India will square off against England in the first of a five-match T20I series in Ahmedabad on Friday.
