England opening batsman Zak Crawley explains what the visitors have planned to counter Indian spinners Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin. The duo troubled the visitors and dismantled the entire team within two days in the third Test in Ahmedabad. Axar had scalped 11 wickets, while Ashwin picked up seven wickets in the third Test.
Ahead of the fourth Test match, Crawley disclosed that the England batsmen would look to be more proactive if the pitch plays the same way it did in the third Test. Zak played his first Test in Ahmedabad as he returned to the field after sustaining a wrist injury. He was also the top-scorer with 53 in England's first innings in the pink-ball Test. However, the side were rolled for 112 after electing to bat first. The visitors have failed to reach the 200-run mark in their last five innings. Crawley believes that these experiences, including dealing with criticism on social media, will benefit the team's young batsmen.
It ultimately depends on how the ball plays: Zak Crawley
Zak Crawley stated that the English batsmen will stick to the basics of the game, considering the red ball doesn't move as much as the pink one. Else, the visitors will need to become more proactive in countering the threat of Indian spinners. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel have accumulated 33 wickets in Ahmedabad and Chennai, including four 5-wicket hauls between them.
England is now out of contention from the World Test Championship final. On the other hand, India needs either a draw or a win to qualify for the final clash at Lord's against New Zealand. Crawley insisted that the fourth and final game will still be a massive game for the visitors. The tourists were defeated by 317 runs in the second Test and then lost the day-night third by ten wickets inside two days. Zak Crawley still believes that the England cricket team can bounce back stronger from those disappointing results.
