The Indian squad for the tour of England has already been announced. The Indian players are not anticipated to fly until the end of this month. However, the BCCI has selected the squad in advance, keeping in mind the Covid-19 complications.
The Indian cricket board has also allowed the players to take their families with them for a lengthy tour. The entire squad is anticipated to depart on June 2 after assembling in Mumbai from various parts of the country. A BCCI source has also disclosed that the RT-PCR tests will be conducted on the players’ families as well. The test will be conducted before departing for Mumbai. After landing in Mumbai, one more test will be conducted before the players, and their family members enter their hotel for the bubble.
Two negative reports are required before the players leave for Mumbai: BCCI
Some of the players like Kohli, Ishant, Rahane, Pujara and Umesh Yadav have taken their first vaccine doses on Monday. The remaining Indian players are likely to take the vaccine in the coming days. The BCCI has also asked players to get in touch if they don’t have access to the Covishield vaccine as the Board will arrange it for them. The Indian cricket board has also asked the Indian cricketers to take the dose of Covishield and not covaxin before flying to England so that the second dose can be made available to them there itself.
The BCCI is yet to finalise the number of days the Indian cricketers will have to undergo quarantine. The Board has suggested 14 days’ quarantine in India and another 10 days in England before the team plays the ICC World Test Championship final. However, Indian players have requested the Board as they don’t want a rigid quarantine and want some relaxation while being in isolation in India.
