The Indian cricket team has been given a thumping defeat by the England side in the fifth Test match. Despite being ahead in many sessions the Indian side was handed over the defeat by the sensational duo of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. Together they made the highest ever partnership for the third wicket, 269 runs to take away the game from India.

Naturally, social media was awash with memes and reactions to India’s defeat. Before we look at those, however, let's recap the great match of Test cricket we just had.

Asked to bat first, the top order of the Indian team collapsed at 98/5. Virat Kohli, for whom millions were expectant, disappointed again and was out playing a no-shot. The southpaws in Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja held the Indian batting together and both made sensational centuries to take the team to a huge 416 runs.

Motivated by Indian lower-order batting, the Indian bowling unit wreaked havoc on English batters are cleaned them up at just 284. Coming onto bat in the second innings, India would have hoped to put decent runs on the board and give a huge target to England. However, India’s top order failed again and the team was done at just 245 in their second innings.

A target of 378 still was a big one to be chased on the fourth and fifth day of a Test, but the England openers came prepared and did their job perfectly. Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46) made the fastest 100-run partnership for the opening stand and gave England a great start.

It was then that Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow walked in and took the game away from India. Together these two sensational batters made a partnership of 269* runs and added another feather to the continuing juggernaut of BazBall.

With this win, England levelled the series 2-2 and all eyes would now be set on the white ball series. Before that, however, Let’s look at the memes that followed this Indian defeat.
