David Lloyd deems that Joe Root will play a crucial role for England in the forthcoming T20 World Cup. The former cricketer backed England's white-ball captain Eoin Morgan to recall Root to the T20I squad. The 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup is going to be the 7th edition of the tournament, and it is expected to be played in October and November 2021 in India. Initially, the tournament was to be held in Australia from October 18 to November 15, 2020. However, in July 2020, ICC announced that the competition had been postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In August 2020, the board confirmed that India will host the competition.

Eager to have Joe Root in England's T20I World Cup squad: David Lloyd

David Lloyd believes that England is being wise in resting their Test skipper. It will be thrilling to see how the visitors will fit Joe Root in their playing XI as they seem to have a settled top-order in the shortest format of the game. Joe Root, one of the world's best batsmen in Test format, has so far accumulated 893 runs in 32 T20Is, with 5 half-centuries at a strike rate of 126.3.

Although David Lloyd is eager to have Joe Root in England's T20I World Cup squad, he admitted that it would hinder their preparations for the Ashes, which will take place in November. It remains to be seen whether the England Cricket Board will prioritize the Ashes over the T20 World Cup.

The 4th T20I game between India and England is a do-or-die clash for the Men in Blue. Team India slumped to a disappointing 8-wicket defeat in the third match. Apart from Kohli, no other player got going on Tuesday, and the bowlers were later taken to cleaners by Buttler. To stay alive in the series, India must regroup on Thursday to defeat England in the game's shortest format. England currently leads the 5-match series 2-1.
