While the updates on Dinesh Karthik stepping down as the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders came out on Friday, the wicketkeeper-batsman had informed his KKR teammates on Thursday itself. Eoin Morgan, the man who has replaced Karthik in mid of this chaos, revealed the news before the KKR match against Mumbai Indians on Friday. Morgan has also come out in support of Dinesh Karthik and his decision.

Eoin Morgan expressed that Karthik took the decision to put more attention on his batting and for the team as Morgan hailed his predecessor’s step as ‘incredibly selfless’. The England captain likewise communicated his joy over his new role of KKR captaincy. Simultaneously, he clarified that he isn't getting diverted with the new role, and his emphasis is completely on the games still left in the IPL 2020 tournament.

Eoin Morgan is delighted with his new role

Eoin Morgan told that DK had informed on Thursday that he might want to venture back and concentrate on his batting as he feels that is the most ideal option for KKR. He felt this action of Karthik incredibly selfless. This action of his shows a lot of courage from his end; putting the team first ahead of him being captain.

Morgan further added that he is delighted to take the leadership role for Kolkata Knight Riders. Obviously, he is the captain and not vice-captain of the team now. However, he is hopeful to continue to work alongside his teammates. They have just passed half of their ongoing IPL tournament journey, and Morgan believes that they have shown some potential. They will work to play better in the upcoming matches.

As of now, KKR is fourth in the IPL points table with four victories from eight matches. The two-time IPL champions have not laid their hands on the trophy since 2014. They would hope that England's World Cup-winning skipper would end their eager wait for the third title.
