The Indian Cricket Board is the wealthiest cricket board in the world thanks to its extensive list of sponsors and the Indian Premier League, which continues to be a significant source of income for the board. The board has recently made headlines after its revenue generation during the 2021-22 fiscal year got revealed. The governing body of Indian cricket has earned a whopping 7,606 crore during this period.

The revelations came after Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, gave details of the income tax paid by the board and its income and expenditures. The Minister revealed the details of the last five years based on the returns filed. The board's extravagant earnings also resulted in them paying a stunning sum of income tax - INR 1,159 crore. This is 37 per cent higher than the previous year.

The Roger Binny-led board paid income tax of Rs 844.92 crore in the 2020-21 financial year. This was actually less than what they paid in the 2019-20 fiscal year, which was Rs 882.29cr. In 2018-19FY, the board paid Rs 815.08 crore in taxes, up from Rs 596.63 crore in 2017-18. In the financial year 2021-22, the board earned Rs 7,606 crore while its expenditure was more than Rs 3,000 crore. In 2020-21 fiscal, its revenue was Rs 4,735 crore and expenditure stood at Rs 3,080 crore.

Nothing is worth until India wins a major trophy: Fans react on social media after seeing the board's earnings

Fans on social media have been stunned at the board's staggering returns, but have also pointed to India's failure to win any major international trophies over the years. The last time India won a major trophy was in the 2013 Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni. With the 2011 World Cup set to begin on October 5, the Men in Blue will be hoping to end their drought.

The Indian Cricket Board is currently busy rescheduling the matches for the mega event as the board secretary Jay Shah confirmed earlier that there will be some changes in the original schedule. Shah also confirmed that there will be no e-ticket facility for the 50-over WC. “We can’t use e-tickets this time around but will ensure to have physical tickets redemption at 7-8 centers well in advance. But physical ticket needs to be retained," he said.
