On 12 October 2022, East Bengal FC took on FC Goa at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, in Kolkata. After losing the season opener, East Bengal were looking to turn things around in front of their home crowd. On the other hand, FC Goa were looking to kick off their match with a win in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022.

However, the result did not go in favour of the home side as they lost to FC Goa by 2-1. East Bengal fans were expecting a good show from their team but they failed again to deliver. But, their head coach, Stephan Constantine said that everything has been happing as a part of their process and they will look to improve things in coming matches.

“We will sit down, look at what we did right, look at what we did wrong, and try to improve on things.” - East Bengal's head coach Stephan Constantine

While attending the post-match presentation, reporters asked Constantine about the expectations regarding the next game. Apparently, in the next match, they are going to face arch-rivals ATK Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata derby. In response to that, East Bengal's head coach said: “Before the derby, we have another game. So I’m not thinking about the derby.”

Then, he opened up about the process in response to a question on building a good team. Constantine added: “I think that’s a good question. We learn from every game in different ways and today we saw players that didn’t feature in the first game, and they came and they played. There is now going to be stiff competition for positions and places, and this is what you want as you don’t want to lose in the 94th minute. Everything we do is part of the process. We will sit down, look at what we did right, look at what we did wrong, and try to improve on things.”

“What I can say to the fans is that the boys gave everything they possibly could, the way the side played in the second half is the way East Bengal will shape up to be, to play in this manner - hard, fast, aggressive. I don’t care what anybody says, but you cannot do this in two-three games. You can expect us to play in a similar manner going forward, unfortunately, it was not enough for us today.” Stephen Constantine concluded.
