The cricketing world is excited as the highly anticipated ODI World Cup in India is less than two months away from getting kicked off. The 13th edition of the marquee international tournament will start with the inaugural clash between the defending champions, England, and the runners-up of the ODI World Cup 2019, New Zealand. Both teams will play this match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on the 5th of October.
Meanwhile, a new announcement from cricket’s governing body has also excited the fans about this colourful multi-nation tournament. A report in Cricbuzz has learned that the cricket’s governing body will organize a briefing session with the captains of all participating teams in the tournament. It will be named as the ‘Captains Day’. This briefing session will be organized on the 4th of October, just a day before the commencement of the tournament opener between England and New Zealand.
All eyes on the Asia Cup 2023 before the ODI World Cup 2023
Speaking of the hosts, India, they are set to be in action in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, in which they will start their run with the first match against the arch-rivals Pakistan. Both teams will lock horns in this high-octane clash at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, the 2nd of September.
The team will be playing under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. The Asia Cup is going to be very crucial for India to examine their preparations for the ODI World Cup 2023 in their backyard. Following the conclusion of the Asia Cup 2023, the Men in Blue will take on Australia in the three-match home ODI series just ahead of the World Cup.
India have also announced their squad for the 16th edition of the continental championship, the team will rely mostly on this squad to finalize their plans for the ODI World Cup. The star players KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have also made their comeback in the squad after a long break due to their respective injuries.
