Queen Elizabeth second, who ruled the British throne from 1952 to 2022, died at 96 in her sleep on September 8. She served as the United Kingdom's monarch for 70 years, which is the second-longest serving sovereign in history. While announcing her death, Buckingham palace said that she died peacefully in her sleep. The statement added that the King and Queen consort will return to London on September 9.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
After her death, her eldest son, Prince Charles will be the Heir to the throne. Notably, he is 73 years old and is the oldest monarch to ever take the British throne. The Royal officials have said that since 1685, King Charles III will be the first king of that name to sit on the throne. The new King and the recently appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss will address the nation.
