Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles locked horns in the 14th game of The Hundred Men's 2022 competition at The Oval, London. The home team won the toss and fielded first. They had a good day with the ball as they didn't let the opposition get too many runs on the board. For Oval, Reece Topley took three wickets and gave away 24 runs in 20 balls.
On the other hand, Mohammad Hasnain and Sam Curran took one wicket each. The latter had a tough game as he gave away 27 runs in 15 balls. Curran gave 28 runs in his full quota of bowling (20 balls). Talking about Brave's batting, only Marcus Stoinis (37) could contribute significantly. The rest of the batters, apart from Tm David (22), failed to cross the 20-run mark.
The James Vince-led side could only amass 137/6 at the end of the innings. In reply, Oval had a poor start as Jason Roy was clean bowled by George Garton on the second ball of the innings. The joy was short-lived as Will Jacks started dominating the innings. The batters such as Rilee Rossouw, skipper Sam Billings, and Curran played the support role.
Jacks scored an unbeaten 108 off 48 balls, including 10 fours and eight sixes. This makes for 88 runs in just 18 balls. Such was his dominance that the team chased down the target in just 82 balls and with seven wickets in hand. With this, the right-hander became the second centurion of the season and the league overall.
The first player to do it was Will Smeed, who scored 101 not out against Brave while playing for Birmingham Phoenix. Coming back to the game, the Surrey-based team has now three wins under their belt after the win while Southern's have lost three games out of four. The Invincibles are now only behind London Spirits, who have won all of their four games in the tournament.
Oval will play their next game against Trent Rockets On August 17 in Nottingham which will be an away game for them.
