In what comes as major news, International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has suspended India from its membership with immediate effect. The decision to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) unanimously after the World body found the influence of third parties in AIFF. For the unversed, the influence of third parties in any national football body is a violation of the FIFA statutes.
"The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes," stated an official media release, issued by FIFA.
The statement from the World Football Governing Body added that the suspension means that India won't be hosting the U17 Women's World Cup in October this year. FIFA is assessing the next steps with regard to the tournament and will refer the matter to the Bureau of the Council if and when necessary. The statement further states that FIFA is in constant contact with the Ministry o Youth Affairs and Sports in India and is hopeful of a positive outcome.
