Big teams like Uruguay, Switzerland, Portugal, and Brazil were looking to start their FIFA World Cup campaign on a high. First, Switzerland took on Cameroon in Al Janoub Stadium. Then, Uruguay locked horns with South Korea in Education City Stadium.
On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal took on Ghana in Stadium 974. Then, Brazil took on Serbia in Lusail Stadium. However, three teams managed to win their World Cup openers. While Uruguay managed only a goalless draw against South Korea.

Switzerland vs Cameroon (1-0)

Uruguay vs South Korea (0-0)
Uruguay fans were hoping for a winning start in this year’s World Cup. But, they failed to do so as they held for a goalless draw against South Korea. Uruguay’s Federico Valverde came close to scoring a goal during the last five minutes of play. But, his shot hit the crossbar and it did not end in the net. Thus, both teams managed to get one point each from this encounter.
Portugal vs Ghana (3-2)
Cristiano Ronaldo started the game for his nation as the skipper of this clash. After a goalless first half, Portugal took lead in the 65th minute. Ronaldo scored from the spot. Then, Andre Ayew scored the equalizer for Ghana in the 73rd minute. But, then, Portugal reacted quickly and scored two goals in the 78th and 80th minute respectively. Joao Felix and Rafael Leao were the goalscorers. However, Ghana got a goal back in the 89th minute, thanks to Osman Bukari. But, in the end, Portugal managed to win the thriller with a scoreline of 3-2.
Brazil vs Serbia (2-0)
All eyes were on the number one ranked team, Brazil when they took on Serbia. But, they won the game deservingly by 2-0. Richarlison came up with a brace. His second goal was world-class as he came up with a sublime overhead kick.
