The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off on November 20 between Qatar, the hosts and Ecuador, which the former eventually lost. On the back of their poor run in the tournament, the hosts eventually crashed out of the biggest sporting event, much to the dreariness of their fans. The multinational tournament is approaching the knockout stage and teams are giving the final push in the hope to make their appearance in the Round of 16, which is just days away.
As things stand, Poland and Argentina locked horns in the Group C match and the group was equally posted that all the teams had an equal chance to make a cut to the knockout stage. However, it was all about La Albiceleste as they marched into the game amid huge expectations. Argentina dominated the first half and eventually got a penalty opportunity in the 38th minute and much to the dreariness of the Argentinian fans, Lionel Messi failed to score and the scoreline remained goalless for both teams at the end of the first half.
As far as the second half is concerned, Argentina bounced back after failing to capitalize on the penalty in the initial half and it was Alexis Mac Allister, who scored the lead for his team in the 46th minute. Julián Álvarez backed his teammate and went on to double the lead as he scored a stupendous goal in the 67th minute.
Mexico dominate final group stage match in FIFA World Cup 2022
Saudi Arabia and Mexico competed against each other in the other Group C match that happened simultaneously and the former looked highly favourites. After defeating Argentina earlier in the tournament, Saudi Arabia's confidence increased over a game and the team looked confident in their final encounter against the Mexican side. Concerning the first half, both teams created an equal number of opportunities and despite all that, the first half ended with neither of the teams scoring a goal.
The second half proved to be Mexico's as they eventually scored 2 goals from the likes of Henry Martín and Luis Chávez in the 47th and 52nd minute respectively. Salem Aldawsari produced the late goal for Saudi Arabia in the extra time past the 90-minute mark and Mexico eventually won the game 1-2. Even though Mexico won the game, Poland made it through to the Round of 16 as they flaunt a lesser number of yellow cards proving to be the luckiest team in the group.
