Japan took on Costa Rica In the ongoing FIFA World Cup on 27 November 2022. It was a Group E game that took place in Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. However, both teams had a contrasting start to the tournament. Japan defeated Germany 2-1 and made history in the ongoing tournament.   

On the other hand, Spain thrashed Costa Rica by 7-0. It was a devastating start to the World Cup campaign for Costa Rica. Therefore, it was a must-win clash for Costa Rica while Japan were looking to continue their winning momentum. The stage was set for a good match between these sides.

Speaking of the match, both teams looked for an early lead in the game. But, no serious chances were created by either of the teams. Both Japan and Costa Rica managed some shots. But, either team failed to hit a single shot on target in the first half. It was the first game of the 2022 World Cup where such an instance occurred. Thus, the first half ended 0-0.

In the second half, both teams started the game with more intensity. In the 46th minute, Japan created a chance. But, Keylor Navas was up to the task as his fingertips were enough to let the ball go behind for a corner. Then, in the 48th minute of the game, Takuma Asano came up with a headed shot to the goal. But, again, they failed to convert the chance into a goal, thanks to Keylor Navas.

Meanwhile, in the 81st minute, Costa Rica broke the deadlock as Keysher Fuller scored the goal. Yelstin Tejeda came up with an assist to that goal. He curled the ball into the back of the net via Shuichi Gonda’s outstretched fingertips. Then, despite many attacks from Japan, they failed to score the equalizer. Thus, Costa Rica managed to win the match 1-0 and kept their hopes alive. Now, Costa Rica will play their last group stage match against Germany on 2 December 2022.
