The FIFA World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar reached the Round of 16 stage and Netherlands faced off against USA in the first-ever knockout match on December 3, Saturday. It was all about the Oranje and much to the stupefaction of the fans, they put on a great fight in the first half. The first 45 minutes were all about twists and turns as the Oranje kept thriving and creating opportunities, leaving no space for USA to make a comeback whatsoever. Eventually, the momentum shifted towards the Netherlands camp and they managed to bag 2 goals in the first half.
As far as the first half is concerned, Netherlands’ star player Memphis Depay scored the first goal for the team in the 10th minute and Daley Blind doubled the lead after giving his all for the team in the extra time right before the stroke of the first half whistle.

Regarding the second half, it was all about the Oranje again as they capitalized on the momentum and toyed with the Yanks. Netherlands players were brimming with confidence and with accurate passing, things looked complicated for USA. However, even after giving it their all, neither of the teams managed to score a goal at the 70-minute mark, although it looked like the Oranje could triple their lead at any given point of time in the deciding half.
Netherlands have been brimming with confidence right throughout the world’s biggest sporting event and the Yanks, on the other hand, made a cut to the Round of 16 stage on the back of their continuous hard work and passion for the game. Eventually, Haji Wright scored the first goal for the Yanks in the 76th minute and brought USA back into the game, although they were trailing by 1 goal. Denzel Dumfries, the Oranje's trusted player, scored the third goal for the team and put Netherlands in a winning position in the 81st minute.
Much to the delight of the Dutch fans, it was Netherlands who won the game with a scoreline of 3-1 and made it through to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The Yanks would hope to make a strong comeback in the next multinational tournament to be held in 2026 and give it their all in rebuilding their team for the same.
