The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to execute all the final three T20Is against England behind closed doors. The final verdict was announced after following detailed discussions with the state and local health authorities. BCCI will now continue to fulfill all the regulations put in place to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The board will always put the health and safety of cricket fans and stakeholders at the top. Those who have bought tickets for any or all three T20Is will be refunded, and the process for the same will be declared in due course.
The first two T20Is witnessed a massive audience in Ahmedabad
The first two T20 games between India and England witnessed a massive crowd in the newly built stadium in Ahmedabad. According to the local officials, around 57,000 people, including volunteers and police, attended the first match.
The series is currently leveled at 1-1, with the third T20I to take place on Tuesday, March 16. In the opening match of the series, England won the game by 8 wickets. For India, barring Shreyas Iyer, no other Indian cricketer could make a significant impact.
However, India bounced back more robust in the second game, winning by 7 wickets. Ishan Kishan, who made his international debut, scored 56 runs off 32 deliveries. Indian captain Virat Kohli also contributed with an unbeaten 73. During the final stages of India’s run-chase, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant turned out with some vigorous blows.
After playing the first two games on black-soil pitches, India and England will play the third T20I on a pitch made of red soil. A red-soil pitch would mean assistance to spinners, and that can play a massive role in the game. The hosts don't have much to complain about, with momentum and home advantage on their side.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar are going to play significant roles, and we might even see Axar Patel coming in the squad as an extra spin-bowling option. It would be exciting to see what changes the two teams make to their playing XIs for the third T20I. Another thrilling game is on the cards. Team India is likely to overwhelm England with spin and take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
