The Indian T20 League mega auction for the 2022 season has concluded and it has been great two days for all teams and at least a few players. There were some bidding wars for the players and some players earned loss less than expected. The marquee players like David Warner and Jason Holder were some of the players that were expected to go high but ended up staying in the single digits.
Some players did break the bank and went for higher prices. Many might argue that some of the highest-paid players are overpriced, but some say that they are a value for the money they got. Here are the top five expensive players of Indian T20 League mega auction.
Ishan Kishan- 15.25 crores
Ishan Kishan broke a few records in the auction room on day one. He became the first player that Mumbai bought over a price of more than 10 crores. He also became the second-highest paid Indian cricketer in the history of the auction. Kishan was bought back by Mumbai this year after some great performances for them in the past. He has been with them since 2018 and his graph has only gone up. The team wanted him in their team, they went all out for him.
Deepak Chahar- 14 crores
Chahar was on Chennai's watch list right from the start. He has been a good option for them in the past and the team was determined to have him. They went all out for him to pay him the huge price of 14 crores. Chennai could not go after some players from their previous team as a result of buying Deepak Chahar. However, they throught he was worth him thus bought him at whopping price.
He gives the team a good bowling option in the powerplay. He also brings in the batting depth as we have seen in some of the games in the past for Chennai and India.
Shreyas Iyer- 12.25 crores
Probably the hottest contender going into the auction was Shreyas Iyer. He was on everyone's list of expected highest buys in the mega auction. Teams tried hard to get him, but Kolkata eventually won the bidding war. There is a high possibility that Kolkata will appoint him as their captain.
He does not just give them an option for captaincy but also a good stable player in the middle-order. Batting at number four generally, Iyer is a steady player and holds the inning together. He will be very important for the team this season.
Liam Livingstone- 11.5 crores
Against all odds, Liam Livingstone was one of the highest-paid cricketers in the auction. While he was expected to get some good bids, he was never expected to break the bank. Punjab bought him for a huge sum of 11.5 crores. Livingstone brings a good option to fill in the all-rounder spot. He can be a floater with the bat, which is always very useful. He can fit in the mix of Punjab well, as they have all their bases covered. The all-rounder can bat in the lower middle-order and bowl if and when needed.
Shardul Thakur- 10.75
Shardul Thakur found a place in the Delhi teams along with some good players in the squad. The Delhi team's combination looks the most settled as they have a mix of young and experienced players. Thakur along with Anrich Nortje will be a good combination. Nortje brings in the pace required and Thakur is great with breaking partnerships. The price paid to the pacer is a fair price and he can be a value for their money. Shardul Thakur will surely have some great opportunities with the Delhi team.
