Asia Cup is one of the major tournaments in the World after the ODI and 20-20 World Cups. Asian Giants such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, etc participate in the tournament. Over the years, these teams have come up with memorable performances. India have won seven trophies, Sri Lanka have won five, and Pakistan have won two since 1984. Bangladesh and Afghanistan started playing the tournament a few years ago.

Several players have been a part of the seven title victories of India so far. A lot of them were the legends of the game and served Indian cricket for a long period. However, there are some unlucky players who played in the tournament but disappeared. In this listicle, we will discuss five players who played in the tournament but disappeared after a short while.

Five players who played in the Asia Cup but disappeared

  1. Manpreet Gony

A few months after playing for Chennai in the Indian T20 League under MS Dhoni in 2008, Gony played for India in their first game of the Group stages against Hong Kong. Notably, that edition was played in Pakistan.

Apart from the game against Hong Kong and Bangladesh, he didn't play a single game in the tournament. After the tournament, he never played for India again.

2. Pawan Negi

Around 10 months after doing well in the 2015 Indian T20 League, he played for India in the 2016 Asia Cup. This was the first time the tournament was played in the T20I format.

In the five-team round-robin tournament, India had one inconsequential game left against the UAE before the final. The left-handed all-rounder played in the same game but never played for India again.

3. Siddharth Kaul

The right-arm pacer was selected for the 2018 edition of the tournament. He went on to play the Super Four game against Afghanistan which was tied and the fans remember that very well.

Notably, this was the only game he played in the tournament and never played for the national team again. However, except for the above-mentioned players, he played for the Men In Blue outside of the tournament i.e in the preceding ODI series against England.

4. Noel David

The former all-rounder from Hyderabad played for India in the 1997 Asia Cup. In that tournament, the team lost the final to hosts Sri Lanka which was played under Arjuna Ranatunga.

In that tournament, David played only one game. Talking about his international career, he has played only four games out of which three were outside of the tournament.

5. Prashant Vaidhya

The former pacer played for India in four ODIs out of which he played one in the 1995 edition of the Asia Cup. This was only the second time the tournament took place in the UAE since 1984.

Talking about Prashant, he played in the game against Bangladesh. In that game, he took two wickets but didn't play in the tournament thereafter. After the tournament, he played only two more games for India.
