Five mistakes Mumbai should avoid if they are to win their sixth title

Mumbai has been the most successful team in the Indian T20 League, with five championships to their name. However, things have not always been right for them as they have had some major problems in the past. Some of these have stayed with them to date. The 2021 season was not the best one for the team and they would look to rectify major errors. Here are some mistakes they should avoid in the Indian T20 League 2022.

Starting off slow

Mumbai has established a reputation that they are slow starters. Mumbai usually loses a few games initially before picking up pace. This might have worked for them a few times but that is a very risky reputation to have and maintain. The 2021 season, where they failed to qualify for the playoffs, is a prime example of that. This time around, they will look to win some matches right at the start of the tournament to be in a comfortable position later.

Middle-order failure

The middle-order failure was a major issue for Mumbai last season. Despite having big stars in the line-up, Mumbai's middle-order failed to perform. Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan had a few good innings but that was not enough. Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, on the other hand, had a terrible last season. This time around, they will look for more contributions from the lower-middle order. 

Lack of wickets from spinners

Another major problem for Mumbai last season was their spinners not being able to perform in the middle overs. Rahul Chahar was their main spinner last season and he only had 13 wickets in 11 matches at a strike rate of over 20. This time, Mumbai does not have many experienced spinners in their squad and they will have to extract the best out of what they have. Mayank Markande will have to step up for the team.

Not lose winning momentum

It is very important to continue the winning momentum to maintain the spirit of the players throughout the season. Mumbai has had some problems in doing so in the past. Last season, they failed to win more than two matches in a row. This time around, they will look to maintain consistency in winning the matches. Rohit Sharma will have to try and keep the morale of this new team high at all times.

Over reliance on Jasprit Bumrah

 Jasprit Bumrah has been an important player for Mumbai but the team will have to avoid relying on him completely. For that, the other pacers in the team will have to step up and take wickets regularly.
