The Indian T20 League was a revolutionary move in the cricketing world. Players from across the globe got the chance to play together and represent franchises for this new concept. Many players made this format very interesting and entertaining to watch. Some of these players continued to do so until the last season of the tournament. Here is a list of the players that were part of the Indian T20 League since its inception but will not play in the coming season.
Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina was one of the most loyal players for the Chennai team. Their Chinna Thala was a part of every season that the team played in. He was a part of the Gujarat team for the 2016 and 2017 seasons when the Chennai team was banned from the tournament. He had registered himself for the 2022 mega auction but went unsold at the event. Many fans were disappointed to see Raina going unsold in the mega auction.
AB de Villiers
MR. 360 was is an icon in Indian T20 League. De Villiers announced his retirement from all formats of the game last year. This came as a heartbreak to the supporters of the Bangalore team. De Villiers was a part of the Delhi team, to begin with, and then moved to Bangalore in the 2011 season. He stayed with them after that and became one of their most successful players in the tournament.
Amit Mishra
The hattrick king in the Indian T20 League will no longer be a part of the tournament as he went unsold for the 2022 season. Mishra, who has played for numerous teams and has 166 wickets to his name, is the third-highest wicket-taker in ITL history, trailing only to Dwayne Bravo (167 wickets) and Lasith Malinga (170 wickets). He played only seven games in the last two years.
Piyush Chawla
The man who hit the winning boundary in 2014 for Kolkata, Piyush Chawla, also went unsold for the 2022 season. With 157 wickets from 165 games, Chawla is the tournament's fourth-highest wicket-taker. The leg-spinner was with Punjab from 2008 to 2013 before joining Kolkata, where he remained a significant player till 2019. His stats, however, peaked in 2020 with Chennai. He moved to Mumbai in 2021, where he only appeared in one game.
Dhawal Kulkarni
Dhawal Kulkarni, a veteran medium-pacer from Mumbai, has appeared in every ITL season, playing for Mumbai, Rajasthan, and the now-defunct Gujarat team. He has 86 wickets in 92 outings at an average of 28 and an economy rate of 8.31 per over. Kulkarni, known for his new-ball bowling, appeared in just two games in the previous two seasons, going wicketless in each. It was not a major surprise that he went unsold in the 2022 auction.
