The Indian T20 League is just around the corner and the excitement is growing with each passing day. The teams are ready with squads, with their sights set on the trophy. The teams were involved in huge bidding wars to get their desired players. At times, the teams overpaid for players that have limited experience and skills. Here is the list of players who might struggle to live up to their price tags in the Indian T20 League 2022.
Rahul Tewatia- 9 crores
The newly formed Gujarat team paid a huge sum of nine crores for the all-rounder. His only success in the tournament is the five sixes he hit in an over of Sheldon Cottrell. Apart from that, he has had no significant contribution to his teams. He has played 48 games in the tournament so far, and has hit just one half-century. He also has picked only 32 wickets in the tournament at a strike rate of close to 25 balls per wicket.
Prasidh Krishna- 10.75 crores
The 26-year old fast bowler was picked by Rajasthan for 10.75 crores in the mega auction. He has been decent with the ball but has not been outstanding. He was expected to get a few crores in the auction, but Rajasthan overpaid for him. In the 34 matches that he has played, he has picked up 30 wickets at a strike rate of close to 25. How well he does for his new team remains to be seen. He has many experienced players around him to learn from.
Wanindu Hasaranga- 10.75 crores
Wanindu Hasaranga impresses everyone with his performances in the international circuit, which got him his first Indian T20 League signing. However, when he played for Bangalore last season, he picked up no wickets in the two games he appeared. He wasn't helpful with the bat either. Bangalore released him ahead of the mega auction but rebought him for a massive price of 10.75 crores. He may get better chances with the team this season. However, given the quality of batters in the tournament, he may struggle.
Harshal Patel- 10.75 crores
Harshal Patel, also known as Purple Patel, was outstanding for the Bangalore team last season. He took the most wickets and won the purple cap in 2021. However, his performance before that and his performance after that has been ordinary. He made his international debut after impressing in the tournament but failed to impress. Patel has a huge task of backing their performance with another good one but that is a massive task given the batters are likely to dominate bowlers on batting friendly decks of Mumbai.
Krunal Pandya- 8.25 crores
Krunal Pandya was one of the most important players when he played for Mumbai. However, his form has seen a dip in the past few years. He was not up to the standards he set. The newly formed Lucknow team paid a sum of 8.25 crores for him. If Krunal gets going, he can be a match-winner for the team. But, that has not been the case for a while now.
