The range of players that wish to participate in the Indian T20 League is extensive. However, the slots available for a team are limited, this leads to many players not getting a chance. With the addition of two new teams this season, a lot more slots opened up and many players were picked in the mega auction. Here is a list of players that have not played in the tournament for over three years, but will make a comeback this year.

Alex Hales

Alex Hales has played well for the England team in the past, but controversies lead him to drop out. He was in contention to play for England as their opener in the 2019 World Cup. But he was sacked out of the team. He has not been able to make a comeback ever since. He was also dropped out of the ITL. And now, he has been picked by Kolkata for the 2022 season and is likely to open the innings for them.

Mark Wood

Mark Wood only played a single game for Chennai in the Indian T20 League in 2018. He was picked to play n the XI but conceded 49 runs in the four overs spell that he bowled. He has not been among the best players in the shortest format, but he has a good knowledge of the game. Wood can be a decent bowler in this format if he puts in the effort. This season he has been picked by the newly formed Lucknow team. He will have to prove why he is a worthy buy for them, by performing well in the team's first season.

Tymal Mills

Tymal Mills was one of the biggest buys in ITL history, as Bangalore paid 12 crores for him in 2017. He was expected to be a big deal in the T20 format, and he also played for the England team back then. In 2017, he only played five matches and got five wickets in a very poor season. This season, he has been picked by Mumbai and will have a huge responsibility to get the best results. He will play along with Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of Jofra Archer this season.

Rishi Dhawan

Rishi Dhawan had a big potential to make it to the big stage, but that never translated well for him. He has not played in the ITL since 2016 but has done well for Himachal Pradesh recently. He guided them to a Vijay Hazare Trophy win recently and was a good all-rounder for them. Dhawan scored 458 runs with the bat with five half-centuries. He also picked 16 wickets with the ball to help them win. Punjab will expect him to do the same for them this season.

Jason Behrendorff

Jason Behrendorf is a player with calm composure but can be lethal with the ball. He has been a match-winner for Australia in the past. However, he only has played five games for Mumbai in the ITL and has five wickets. These numbers do not justify what he is capable of. The Bangalore team bought him this season in the mega auction. He may not be their primary bowler but will make for an excellent backup overseas quick for the team.
