The early setback did not deter Odisha, and in the 40th minute, they found the equalizer. Mauricio stepped up to take a penalty after a foul inside the box, delivering a clinical finish that beat the East Bengal goalkeeper, Gill, who had guessed the right way but couldn't deny the well-placed shot. The first half concluded with both teams’ scores at 1-1.

The second half witnessed a strategic play from Odisha, and in the 61st minute, they took the lead. Princeton capitalised on Jahouh's clever delivery from a corner, executing a well-drilled training-ground routine to slot the ball past Victor Vazquez between the legs.
