India faced their second consecutive defeat in the second match of their campaign in the ongoing AFC Asian Cup 2023; Uzbekistan defeated the men in blue by 3-0.

Uzbekistan completely outplayed India in the second match of their AFC Asian Cup 2023 campaign. Both teams played this match on Thursday, January 18 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. Uzbekistan completely dominated from the start of the match, with the first goal coming just in the fourth minute of the match.

Abbosbek Fayzullayev scored the first goal of the match and registered a lead of 1-0 in his side’s favour. Continuing their dominance, Uzbekistan’s second goal came in the 18th minute of the match as Igor Sergeyev scored a magnificent goal to increase the team’s lead from 1-0 to 2-0.

However, India managed to keep Uzbekistan away from scoring any further goal for almost the next 30 minutes. But just before the final whistle of the first half, Sherzod Nasrullayev crushed India’s hopes by smashing the third goal for his team in the fourth minute of the injury time of the first half after the end of 45 minutes.

India to face Syria in their last group-stage match

With the second consecutive defeat in the tournament, India are now placed in the fourth and last spot in the Group B of the tournament. Australia are currently the table toppers in Group B with two consecutive wins to their name in the two matches they played so far.

While Uzbekistan, after defeating India by 3-0 have moved to the second spot in the points table of Group B. Having one defeat and a draw to their name, Syria are at the third spot of Group B’s points table.

India will now face Syria in their third and last group-stage match; both teams will play this match at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on Tuesday, January 23 next week. Now, India’s hopes for the knockouts have also been ended with the second consecutive defeat in the tournament.
