Forbes reveal the most valuable team of the Indian T20 League 2022

The most successful team in the Indian T20 League, i.e. Mumbai, has been revealed to be the most valuable franchise of 2022. According to Forbes, the Mumbai-based franchise is worth $1.3 billion, followed by Chennai, which is worth $1.15 billion.

Kolkata ($1.1 billion), Lucknow ($1.075 billion), and Delhi ($1.035 billion) come next, followed by Bangalore ($1.025 billion), Rajasthan ($1 billion), Hyderabad ($970 million), Punjab ($925 million), and Gujarat ($850 million).

The Indian T20 League, according to Forbes, has been a golden opportunity for investors. The franchise-owned cricket league issued its first (and only) valuations of the league's teams in 2009, putting the average worth of the eight franchises at $67 million. With the league just expanding to ten teams, that average is now up to $1.04 billion, at a 24 per cent yearly growth rate.

Ajimon Francis, managing director at Brand Finance India, a brand valuation and strategy consultancy, said that the credit for the tournament attracting so many sponsors goes to the founders. He also praised the board for conducting the tournament during Covid.

"The Indian T20 league is the most prominent cricket league in the world in terms of attracting sponsors and media rights. A lot of credit goes to the founders of the Indian T20 league, who took ideas from the NBA and European soccer leagues, and good governance by the BCCI with regards to clear visibility of team funding and ensuring the tournament continued during Covid," Forbes quoted Francis saying.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai-based franchise hasn't really had the season they had hoped for. They've played eight games this edition and are yet to win a game. They currently stand at the bottom of the points table. The men in blue and gold also became the first team to be out of the race for the Indian T20 league 2022 playoffs. They play their next game against Rajasthan on the 30th of April.
