Former Elite umpire Asad Rauf has died of a heart attack at the age of 66. He breathed his last in Lahore on September 14. He was a first-class cricket in Pakistan before taking the umpiring job. Talking about his FC career, he played 71 games combining for teams such as National Bank and Railways. In 2006, he officiated in a Test match before entering the elite level of the job.
Talking about his umpiring career, he officiated 64 Tests, 139 ODIs, and 28T20Is. Out of 64 Tests, he was an on-field umpire for 49 games and played the role of a third umpire in the rest of the games. In the 50-overs format, he was an on-field official for 98 games and was the television umpire for 41 games. In the shortest format, he gave his verdict on the field in 23 games, and in five games, he gave his verdict as the third umpire.
His umpiring career had ended after the spot-fixing controversy during the 2013 Indian T20 League. Also, a year before this, he was alleged of sexual abuse by a Mumbai-based model. A few months ago, he spoke to a new channel as he was found running a shop for a living.
"This isn't for me, this is the daily wages of my staff, I work for them. I've umpired in so many games all my life, there's no one left to see now. I haven't been in touch with the game since 2013, because once I leave something I leave it completely," Rauf had said in an interview to the Pakistani news channel, Paktv.tv back in June.
