Vijay Zol made headlines when he signed a youth contract with the Bangalore franchise in the Indian T20 League in 2012. He was the captain of the under-19 Indian team in 2014. But, recently, Vijay Zol found himself in legal trouble after getting booked for kidnapping, extortion, and rioting.
All these charges were apart from under sections of the Indian Arms Act by an investment manager in Jalna on 17 January 2023. A 44-year-old man lodged an FIR for asking him for lakhs of rupees, after investing in Crypto. Along with Zol, his brother and 18 other people were also charged in the same FIR.
“Blaming them for kidnapping and extortion is absolutely wrong” - Bhausaheb Zol, father of Vijay Zol
Speaking about the whole matter, the superintendent of police, Akshay Shinde said that Vijay and his brother entered the manager's house in Pune on 5 January. Then, they kidnapped him to take him to his house in Jalna.
After that, he transferred INR 1.09 crore before release, apart from asking for INR 10 crore as extortion money. Akshay Shinde said: "We have registered two FIRs based on the complaints from both sides. We are verifying all claims and allegations mentioned in the FIRs and will take appropriate action." However, Zol’s father, Bhausaheb Zol denied all such allegations. Notably, Zol’s father is a senior criminal lawyer.
"My sons may have invested in the firm of the crypto currency investment manager but blaming them for kidnapping and extortion is absolutely wrong. Why would the kidnapped man be dropped by the abductors to his home in Jalna? Also, why has there been a delay of 10 days in registering the case?" Bhausaheb Zol concluded. Speaking about Vijay Zol, he has played 15 First-Class, 19 List-A, and 25 T20 matches for Maharashtra. He has represented both India-A and India U19. Zol was a part of the 2012 Under-19 World Cup winning campaign for team India. In the 2014 Indian T20 League season, he played three matches for the Bangalore franchise.
