Virat Kohli's present form is the most talked-about topic in the cricketing world. For more than two years, the former Indian captain, nicknamed "run machine," hasn't been able to score a century. He even gave up his captaincy across all formats of the game to concentrate on his batting and regulate his workload. However, he has not gotten the results he would have wished for.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin recently said that Kohli's remarkable consistency during his peak years has set such a high standard that even if he scores in the 50s or 60s, his supporters believe he has underperformed.

"With Virat Kohli, what happens is that even if he scores a 50, people say he has failed. I think it happens to every cricketer, even the best of the players have gone through these lean periods," said Azharuddin, as quoted by Khaleej Times.

Azhar believes it is only a matter of time until Kohli regains his form. The ex-Indian captain went on to say that a century from Virat's bat will get him back on track. "There is nothing wrong with his technique. Sometimes you also need a little bit of luck. If he gets one big score, a big hundred, the aggression and the confidence will come back," he said.

The batting maestro was below-par during  Indian T20 League 2022. It proved to be one of Kohli's worst seasons. In 16 games, he scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73. Although even scored a couple of fifties, he was consistently inconsistent and struggled throughout the tournament.

Azharuddin on Hardik Pandya

Meanwhile, Azhar discussed Hardik Pandya's comeback, noting that the all-rounder must show consistency, especially following a successful season in the Indian T20 League 2022.

"He has the ability, he has done well for the Indian team, but because of the injuries, he was not in the team consistently. He has come back now, he is bowling his four overs. How long he will bowl we really don’t know. But we definitely want him to bowl since he is an all-rounder," he said.
