One of the prime debates after the announcement of India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023 is the omission of the star leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. The 33-year-old was not picked by the selectors for the continental championship as they preferred the wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav over Chahal while selecting the squad.

Meanwhile, a lot of former Indian cricketers have come up with their opinions while backing Chahal to be a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming major international tournaments, including both the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. They also stressed the fact that Chahal is going to be very crucial in the spin-friendly Indian conditions.

Amidst all this, the former star Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has given completely a different and blunt statement, while speaking of the Haryana-based leg spinner’s omission from the Indian squad. He went on to say that Chahal is not the one who truly deserves a spot in the squad of India in the current setup of the team.

"Yuzvendra Chahal doesn't deserve to be in Team India right now. He has been very inconsistent. Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, has picked up wickets regularly and can be effective in the middle overs. The selectors took the right call by going with Kuldeep over Chahal," said Kaneria in a video on his YouTube channel.

"A few bad games don't make him a bad bowler." - Harbhajan Singh for Yuzvendra Chahal

However, the former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh had a quite different opinion and he spoke in support of Chahal. He also named him as the best Indian spinner in the limited-overs cricket.

"The one thing I feel is lacking in the team is the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. A leg-spinner who can get the ball to turn away. If you talk about genuine spinner, I don't think there's any spinner in India better than Chahal in white-ball formats. Yes, his last few games weren't good, but that doesn't make him a bad bowler," said the 2011 World Cup-winning off-spinner in a video on his YouTube channel.
