Former Sri Lankan great rates Babar Azam as No 1 batter in world cricket

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 commenced on July 31, and one of the big-name overseas stars Babar Azam is playing in the tournament. Babar proved his mettle for Colombo Strikers in the game against B-Love Kandy where he hit his maiden half-century in the tournament. Meanwhile, Chaminda Vaas in an interview with Hindustan Times said that Babar is the number one batter in the world at the moment.

Babar is playing in the LPL to get accustomed to conditions in Sri Lanka ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup which will be co-hosted by Pakistan and the Emerald Isle. If you take Babar Azam, we all know that he’s the number one batsman in the world (currently),  All the youngsters can learn so much from him. I’m so excited to see him play in the Lanka Premier League. Vaas said. When the question came regarding Babar's strike rate in T20s, Vaas defended him and said that he has proper role clarity and will do well for the team.

Kohli is still young and has a lot of time for Indian cricket - Chaminda Vaas

The questions in the interview diverted to Indian Cricket and Vaas was asked about the big Sachin Tendulkar Virat Kohli comparison. Vaas said Kohli is lacking consistency in recent times. The former Sri Lankan bowler said consistency was a hallmark of Sachin Tendulkar even in his later years and that is what sets them apart. Vaas called Kohli "young" and said that he has time on his side to be able to break Tendulkar's records.

Record as there to be broken, you know, you can’t keep records all the time. Different eras, different players, but the way I see it, Kohli is still young and has a lot of time. Age is just a number, and the way he’s performing, I’m sure he will do well for Indian cricket. We have seen different generations in which India has produced excellent cricketers. Vaas added. The Colombo coach said that the Asia Cup will be fought on an even keel as the teams are very strong.
