There have been instances where cricketers have gone out of the way to win matches for their teams. They have been remembered for their heroics and have put the game on a pedestal. On the other hand, the game has gotten a bad name due to age fudging. For the unversed, age fudging is a term used for people who hide their real age.
In the Indian subcontinent, several players across all levels of the game have been banned and fined for involving in such activity. A lot of players, who have played at the highest level, were also alleged to be involved in age-fudging. However, none of these allegations was proved. In this listicle, we will discuss four players who were alleged to be involved in age-fudging.
Four players who were alleged to be faking their age
Munaf Patel
The 2011 World Cup winner has played 13 Tests, 70 ODIs, and three T20Is and has more than 100 wickets in international cricket. Talking about his career in the Indian T20 League, he played for Rajasthan, Mumbai, and the now-defunct Gujarat team.
A few years ago, Late Shane Warne alleged that Patel had faked his age by six years. Notably, both players played with each from 2008 to 2010 and were part of the 2008 title-winning team.
Amit Mishra
The Haryana leg-spinner has played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India. He made his debut in 2003 and played his last in 2017. These days, he is not even on the selection radar of the Indian cricket board.
A few years ago, former India opening batter Virender Sehwag made a claim that Mishra might be older than his official documents. Notably, Sehwag also claimed that he also did the same thing.
Mohammed Shami
The right-arm pacer is currently one of the prominent pacers in Tests and ODI cricket for India. However, a few years back, his now ex-wife claimed that Shami has faked his age.
She claimed that his birth certificates say that it displayed four different birth dates (1980, 1982, 1984 and 1990). As per the records, he was born in 1990 and is around 32 years old.
4. Shahid Afridi
The former Pakistan cricketer had the record of making his debut at the age of 16. Also, he was the fastest centurion at the same age when he scored 37-ball 100 in 1996.
However, a few years back, he released his biography and confessed that his age at the time of his debut was 21. In the book, he claimed that he was born in 1975.
